How it works Your needs I can meet students at their home, at the library, or any agreed upon location, by appointment on a weekday or the weekend. During the first session, we will discuss the student's needs and goals. The problem could be as simple as one chapter, in which case we get right to work. For general remedial work, we will look at recent graded materials, and go through the class syllabus to determine where help is needed the most, and how much help will be needed. Then we will draw up a schedule to remedy the current situation and stay ahead of future developments such as upcoming finals and papers. For high school students, each tutoring session is followed by a free parental briefing. Meeting When meeting with your tutor, please have the following ready, so no time is wasted looking for: - course syllabus and chapter assignments - calendar of upcoming tests, paper due dates and vacations - the textbook(s) used - class powerpoints and other online class resources ready on screen - current homework and study questions - recent tests and homework assignments graded by the teacher - for test preparation, a book or printout of practice tests with answer keys, if available - if applicable, a short list of topics the student or their teacher feels should be addressed Reserve a quiet place in the home. No cell phones or interruptions. Online tutoring Online tutoring is a great resource if an in-person meeting cannot be arranged because of incompatible schedules, travel, a snow storm, or for emergency help the night before an exam. Technology used: Apple Facetime (using an iphone or ipad), Skype, Google Documents, screen sharing solution. Travel I am available in the following counties: Rockland, Westchester, Bergen, Orange, Bronx, Manhattan. I am also willing to drive to Queens, NY for appointments of at least 2 hours taking place on weekdays between 10.30am and 2.30pm. See under Rate, below, to determine minimum appointment durations for locations requiring a lengthy commute. I do not charge for mileage. Rate My rate is $75/hour. There is a 2h minimum per appointment in Manhattan and anywhere more than 40 minutes from 10952 by road, a 1.30h-hour minimum in Westchester near the Tappan Zee or about a half hour away, and a one hour minimum locally. There is no minimum for online meetings. The idea is that I do not spend more time in traffic than meeting with a student. Thank you for your understanding. Rates can be lower for multiple sessions per week, and for appointments taking place before 3pm on weekdays, which should be especially useful for college students. For students with recurring weekly tutoring sessions, I am available anytime to address quick questions on the phone or by skype, either immediately or as soon as I can call you back. It is reassuring to know help is just a phone call away. Methods of payment Payment methods include cash, check, card swipe or paypal invoicing. Payment for the first three meetings is expected at the time of the meeting. In the case of invoicing, the invoice must be paid before the next meeting. Appointments and cancellations Weekly recurring appointments are available any weekday. Weekend tutoring is scheduled as we go. If you need to cancel, it is appreciated if you can do so no later than the previous day. If I am already on the road, the cancellation fee is $20 per hour of travel. |
